Bounded Languages Described by GF(2)-grammars

چکیده

GF(2)-grammars are a recently introduced grammar family that has some unusual algebraic properties and is closely connected to the of unambiguous grammars. By using method formal power series, we establish strong conditions necessary for subsets $$a_1^* a_2^* \cdots a_k^*$$ be described by GF(2)-grammar. further applying established results, settle long-standing open question proving inherent ambiguity language $$\{ \, a^n b^m c^\ell \mid n \ne m \text { or } \ell \}$$ , as well give new, purely algebraic, proof = .

Parallel Parsing of Languages Generated by Ambiguous Bounded Context Grammars

Using the CRCW PRAM model, we describe a language recognition algorithm for an arbitrary grammar in the class of BCPP grammars 9]. (BCPP grammars, which admit ambiguity, are a generalization of both the NTS grammars 14] and Floyd's bounded context (BC) grammars 4].) Using n processors, the algorithm runs in time O(h log n) (O(h) in the case of an unambiguous grammar), where n is the length of t...

Genome structure described by formal languages.

Nucleic acid sequences may be looked upon as words over the alphabet of nucleotides. Naturally occurring DNAs and RNAs form subsets of the set of all possible words. The use of formal languages is proposed to describe the structure of these subsets. Regular languages defined by finite automata are introduced to demonstrate the application of the concept on RNA-phages of group I. This approach p...

Compressibility of Finite Languages by Grammars

We consider the problem of simultaneously compressing a finite set of words by a single grammar. The central result of this paper is the construction of an incompressible sequence of finite word languages. This result is then shown to transfer to tree languages and (via a previously established connection between proof theory and formal language theory) also to formal proofs in first-order pred...

Probabilistic Grammars and Languages

A classic theorem of Ellis (1970) asserts that there are probabilistic languages (p-languages) that are not generated by any probabilistic finite state grammar (PFSG) even though their support (the set of strings with nonzero probability) is regular. Ellis’ proof is highly algebraic, and gives no indication why such p-languages exist. Suppes (1970) argued that Ellis’ construction is an artefact...
